Event branding for the VSF 2019 hosted in Chengdu.
• Background
The festival concerns experimental sound and video, the human body as media of listening, the relation between sound and time, sound and urban environment at the present.Their leading artists reach out to me for design the poster, exhibition program and an updated logo for the 2019 VFS (Vital Sounding Festival).

• Design Details
We chose to use the red gradient ellipse as a representation of “the present” (the 2019 theme). The logo for 2019 is updated with the red gradient ellipse, keeping the mark the same with last year in front.
The 3 intersecting circles on the poster represents "the past" and "the present", and "the future as the past", as the sounding festival means to draw attention to the experience of the now, where the sound art intersects with environmental noise interacts.
The idea is to print the poster on transparent film and put up in different places in the city to represent that intersection of art and its environment. Due to the funding changes, we decided to print only on A4 films to post on social media (see images in the end), and still use white paper for larger sizes (A3, A2, A1).
There are also 3 different categories/mediums of the work: sound, moving image, performance. On the exhibition program, a page with 3 circles intersecting is an infographic displays the artists that has works in these 3 different realms. (The initial design is to have the same arrangement on the poster, and it was requested to be changed to random because they prefer not making that info prominent.)
Since the festival involves international artists and audiences, everything includes both English and Chinese.
